Key injuries hit Lions' AFLW campaign
Brisbane's AFLW Premiership defense is off to a rocky start with stars Kate Lutkins and Dakota Davison potentially facing long runs on the sidelines after their opening round losses.
Key defender Lutkins suffered a knee injury while Davison suffered an ankle injury in the Lions' 30-point loss to Adelaide on Sunday.
Just five minutes later, Lutkins walked off the field when her knee was awkwardly stuck in the ground.
It was a similar non-contact injury story for Davison just before halftime when his foot got stuck in the surface.
Lions coach Craig Starcevich said both injuries would be known soon, but he would wait for scans to determine the extent of the damage.
"Kate doesn't look great, changes direction, there's no one around and her knees are bent, so it doesn't look great," Starsevich said.
"Dakota pushes back after taking a mark and swings her leg at an odd angle, it doesn't even look good.
"One key back and one key forward - it's a really good day at the office when you lose those two players.
"It's more than likely going to be an opportunity for someone else, but we've got to see what the injuries are."
Lutkins is one of the Lions' most important players.
The 33-year-old is a three-time All-Australian and was the best on the ground in last year's premiership win.
"He's a very flexible character," Starsevich said.
"She's wonderfully upbeat and she doesn't go too far, Kate. She's fine."
The Lions held the Grand Final rematch close to halftime - 11 points behind at the main break - before they ran off their feet in the second half, eventually going from 6.3 (39) to 1.3 (9) in a seasoned Crows outfit. Were.
