Man United's Edinson Cavani vows to stay until end of season - Ralf Rangnick
Edinson Cavani has told Manchester United interim boss Ralph Rangnick that he will stay at Old Trafford until the end of the season.
Cavani, who is out of contract for the summer, has been linked with moving to Barcelona or returning to South America in January, but Rangnik has said the 34-year-old has promised to stay until the end of the campaign.
"I told him if it's up to me I want him to stay," Rangnik said.
"I had a conversation with him [on Thursday]. He came into my office and we talked for about half an hour and he told me that he would definitely stay and would like to stay until the end of the season.
"Not only because I told him he should or should stay, he did it on his part and he told me that I could count on him to stay until the end of the season and give my best and a role. Model for young players
"If he must play from the start, he is available and he is happy to play.
"Even if he's not playing, he'll try to be the best possible role model for other players and that's good news for me."
United and Rangnik begin their FA Cup campaign with a home match against Aston Villa on Monday
The club has not won the trophy since lifting the Europa League under Jose Mourinho, and Ranganic has promised to pick a strong side against Steven Gerrard's Villa.
Villa have already won at Old Trafford this season - a 1-0 win in September - and since Gerrard's appointment have moved up to 13th on the table despite losing their last two games to Chelsea and Brentford.
A home game against Middlebrough in the fourth round awaits the winner.
"I have always been a huge fan, supporter and admirer of the FA Cup," Rangnik said.
"It's a very important competition for me. We'll definitely try to play our best team and a strong team in that game. We take the game as seriously as possible and hopefully we'll go a round ahead But to do that we have to be successful against Aston Villa.
"We know it's not going to be an easy game because especially since they change managers they are doing well. They won four games and lost four games, three of them against the top team. Make it a success. To be there requires our top performance."
