Will 'Dexter: New Blood' Get a Season 2?
The finale for Dexter: New Blood will premiere on Showtime on Sunday, January 9.
Titled "Sin of the Sins", episode 10 of the new series will follow Michael C. Hall's Dexter Morgan as he is forced to deal with dangerous threats to himself and his son Harrison (Jack Alcott).
All Dexter and Harrison want to do is live a peaceful life, but that won't be possible, as Angela (Julia Jones) apparently has evidence on Jim, Dexter's pseudonym, that the serial killer would be unable to ignore.
Will There Be a Season 2 of 'Dexter: New Blood'?
Dexter: New Blood was drawn to the finale of the original show, which ended on a sour note for fans.
The follow-up was designed to revisit Dexter's character and give his story a satisfying conclusion, especially after the original series left things open with the killer pretending to be his own death. and was living under a fictitious identity.
This is because given the response to the original series finale, Dexter: New Blood would not make the same mistake, and would provide a definitive conclusion on Dexter's story.
When Dexter: New Blood was first announced in 2020, it was said that the show would be a limited series with only 10 episodes.
This means that there will be no second season of Dexter: New Blood, although it may be possible to create another spin-off after this depending on how the series ends.
At the time the original announcement was made, Showtime president Gary Levine said in a statement shared by TVLine: "We will only revisit this unique character if we can find a creative take that is truly fantastic, The original series was worthy."
Lead actor Hall spoke of giving his character a more definitive ending in 2017, and said of the original show's finale in an interview with The Daily Beast: "I thought it was narratively satisfying - but it was so was not likable.
“I think the show lost a certain amount of torque. Naturally because of the amount of time we did it, the storytelling capital we spent because our writers could have gasped…
"Perhaps some people wanted a more satisfying ... ending for that, either a happy ending or a more definite sense of ending."
Clyde Phillips, Dexter: New Blood showrunner who was also on top for the original until Season 4, said during a virtual panel at San Diego Comic Con in July 2021 that the new show's finale would shock fans.
According to Polygon, he explained: "Its ending will be surprising, shocking, surprising, unexpected. And without thinking of anything, I'd say the end of this new season that we're on will blow up the internet."
This means whether or not Dexter will meet a more permanent ending than the original series will be clear after the finale premieres.
