Titans not activating RB Derrick Henry for Sunday's game vs. Texans
Derrick Henry returned to practice this week, but will need more time before he can return to the field of play.
The Titans announced that they did not activate their All-Pro on Saturday, and thus would not play against the Texans in Week 18. Henry was named to return from injured reserve on Wednesday, marking the start of a 21-day window in which he should be active to play later in the season.
That has been the target range for Henry, who suffered a Jones fracture in his leg in week 8, with a timetable of 6-10 weeks for recovery. Henry could be back in time for Tennessee's playoff opener.
If the Titans (11-5) beat the Texans, who would take the top seed of the AFC and get a lone bye in the conference, he and his teammates would have an extra week to prepare. NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe reported that there remains considerable optimism that Henry will return for the playoffs as he continues his activity.
With the two-time Rushing champion out this weekend, D'Onta Foreman will continue to bear the bulk of Tennessee's backfield load. Foreman ran for a career 132 yards last week and topped 100 yards in three of the last five games. His contribution has been significant in the absence of Henry, who was in the midst of another historic expedition before being taken down.
Henry's 937 rushing yards (tall at only eight games) still ranks sixth in the NFL this season.
