Newcastle United sign defender Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid
Newcastle United have signed England international full back Kieran Trippier from La Liga champions Atletico Madrid on a 2-1/2 year contract.
Newcastle United announced the signing of Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid, with the England international becoming the first arrival under the club's new Saudi-led ownership.
Tripper became Newcastle's first signing since being acquired by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund in October and was reunited with manager Eddie Howe, who signed the right-back from Manchester City for Burnley in 2012.
"Newcastle United are pleased to confirm the signing of England full-back Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid for an undisclosed fee," the club said in a statement.
"The 31-year-old has agreed terms on a two-and-a-half-year deal and has become the first senior signer under club owners and head coach Eddie Howe."
Trippier said he is enjoying his return to England from Spain.
He said: "I am delighted to join this wonderful club. I really enjoyed my time at Madrid, but when I became aware of my interest at Newcastle United and had previously worked with Eddie Howe, I knew this was where I wanted to be.
"I know we have a lot of work ahead of us, but I know very well the demands of the Premier League and I know it's an amazing club with a lot of talented players. I can't wait to get started. "
