Mahesh Babu’s older brother Ramesh Babu dies, Chiranjeevi and others offer condolences
Mahesh Babu’s older brother Ramesh Babu died on Saturday night at the age of 56.
Actor-producer Ramesh Babu, the elder brother of actor Mahesh Babu, passed away on Saturday night at the age of 56 after a prolonged illness. After the family shared the news of his death on social media late Saturday night, several members of the Telugu film industry offered their condolences.
As per several reports, Ramesh Babu was battling liver-related ailments for a long time, but he died suddenly. The news of his passing was confirmed by the family-owned production company GMB Entertainment on Twitter. "An official press statement from the Ghattamaneni family on the untimely demise of Shri Ghattamaneni Ramesh Babu Garu," read the tweet.
"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Ghattamaneni Ramesh Babu Garu. He will live on in our hearts forever," the statement read. The family advised fans and followers not to gather for funerals and last rites, following the COVID-19 protocol. The statement further read, "In light of the prevailing circumstances, we request all our well wishers to follow the COVID-19 norms and avoid gathering at the cremation site."
Ramesh Babu was an actor known for films like Bazaar Rowdy, Mugguru Kodukulu and others. After retiring from acting in 1997, he became a producer.

Several members of the film industry mourned his death. Actor Chiranjeevi tweeted, "My heartfelt condolences to Shri Krishna Garu, @urstrulyMahesh & all the family members. May God give strength to the family to deal with this sad loss." Actor Sai Dharam Tej tweeted, "Sad to learn about the untimely demise of Shri. #GhattamaneniRameshBabuGaru."
Several others from the industry including actors Varun Tej, Anil Ravipudi, Ramesh Verma, Gopichand Malineni and Nitin also offered their condolences to Ramesh Babu's family.
Mahesh Babu had recently tested positive for Covid-19 and is currently in isolation at home. It is not clear whether he will be able to attend his brother's funeral.
