Magpies and Dogs stars suffer ACL tears
Western Bulldogs star Isabel Huntington and Collingwood co-captain Brianna Dewey will miss the remainder of the AFLW season after scans revealed both suffered an ACL tear.
Huntington had rebuilding on both knees in 2018 and 2019, and his right knee was bent on Saturday as he changed direction in the Bulldogs' defeat in Melbourne.
The scans confirmed that Huntington had ruptured his right ACL graft, while his lateral meniscus was also damaged.
Bulldogs women's soccer boss Debbie Lee said, "We are absolutely devastated for Izzy – she is a much-loved figure in the kennel, and everyone is well aware of her injury battles, so we're in for her." Very sad for that."
"He worked very hard this pre-season to prepare himself for this year, so it's a real shame that his 2022 campaign is cut short.
“Izzy is a true professional though, and it will take her twice before she knows what she needs.
"As a club, we will continue to support him and the family in any way we can."
Collingwood confirmed the bad news that Davey had suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, as well as a rupture of his medial collateral ligament.
Sunday's win over the 26-year-old took the injury late in his fourth term.
Davey will undergo a second reconstruction on her right knee after having surgery in 2018, and she will miss the rest of the season.
"We are all heartbroken for BRI," said Collingwood women's football chief Jess Berger.
“It is very hard for our captain to go down with such a brutal injury, let alone someone who is at the top of his game. There is no doubt that his injury is felt not only within our team, but throughout the AFLW community Has been.
“Bea is an incredibly strong, hard-working athlete, extremely determined and cares deeply for her teammates. These characteristics will give her great confidence to face the challenge that is to come.
"She's overcome this injury before and knows what it takes to get back to being one of the best of the competition."
Brisbane gunman Kate Lutkins eagerly awaits the results of her scans after suffering an early knee injury following the Lions' loss to Adelaide on Sunday.
Lutkins' teammate Dakota Davidson also went down with an ankle problem in Sunday's win on the Gold Coast, while GWS star Chloe Dalton suffered a serious shoulder injury.
Knee reconstruction has been a major issue in the AFLW throughout its five-year history.
But the latest injury report showed that ACL injuries were among the lowest in the league last year.
