Duke Falls To Miami In Cameron

In case you're not interested, Miami's 76-74 win over Duke was as pulsating as it comes, with lead change after lead change—15 in total—in a game that had not yet been decided. until Duke missed two possible games—winning 3s in the final four seconds.

Miami came 4–0 at Cameroon in the ACC, riding an eight-game winning streak. But there was some doubt about the validity of that record.

Duke was only able to force five turnovers and scored only two of them, a late layoff by Paolo Banchero that put Duke up 74–71, with 45 seconds to spare.

But Duke did not score after that, while Miami used a four-point possession to swing the game.

The first half was of half a run. Miami took an 8-0 lead to take a 14-6 lead. Duke responded with a 13–0 run and took an eight-point lead at 26–18. But Miami scored the next 10 points, then Duke scored six and Miami scored the last four and we went 32-32 at halftime.

You don't have to be a forensic scientist to know the reason. The Blue Devils had 13 turnovers in the first half, four by star Ving Moore and three by Jeremy Roach.

Mike Krzyzewski cited this as a major section.

By 74-71 the Blue Devils needed a major stop to take control.

Instead they got a disaster. Charlie Moore—Krzyzewski called him "the key to the game in how he handled the team"—walked in with the dribble, scored and scored a foul on Jeremy Roach.

Duke's Moor took the loss particularly hard.

"It all starts with me. Tonight I didn't lead the guys the way I should. With 30 seconds left at three, I can't let us lose that game."

Banchero led Duke with 20 points and added 7 rebounds. Moore had 12 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists, but he overcame it 6 times and missed all 4 of his 3-pointers. Mark Williams had 12 points, 7 rebounds and 6 blocks.

But Charlie Moore was the best Moore on the court. The three-time transfer had 18 points, 7 steals and only one trade.

Duke's inability to force turnover was as important as Miami's success in coercing turnover.

"They were just looking after the ball," said Moore, "playing their offense. Our pressure defense didn't bother the team. They're an old team and not every team will hit the ball more than 15 or 20 times." And that will make it easier for us. We're going to have dogfights all year round."

The loss drops Duke 2-1 in ACC, 12-2 on aggregate. Miami is 5-0 and 13-3.

"It shows the battle we have," Krzyzewski said, "we are a young team.
