Cowboys RB Tony Pollard, CB Trevon Diggs, S Jayron Kearse ruled out vs. Eagles
If the NFC East champion Dallas Cowboys are to improve their playoff seeding on the final weekend of the season, they will have to do it without three major cast members. Cornerback Trayvon Diggs and safety Jeroen Kers will not travel with the team, leaving Toni Pollard behind and are ruled out against Philadelphia on Saturday.
Pollard is battling a leg injury, while Keers is battling a hamstring problem. Diggs is sick but not among 11 cowboys currently on his reserve/COVID-19 list. Team announces safety Donovan Wilson (illness) is not traveling with the team but remains suspicious.
Most playoff scenarios, even with the Cowboys' win against the Eagles on Sunday, would keep Dallas in its current playoff position with the No. 4 seed. Club boss Jerry Jones said earlier this week that the team has no intention of resting starters in anticipation of a first-round playoff game against the Eagles, despite the prospect of improving seeding. With Pollard, Keirs and Diggs, however, they have no choice.
Pollard tore the plantar fascia on his left foot in week 13 and has been battling the injury ever since. He missed Week 14 but has played at least 30 percent of the Cowboys' offensive snaps in every three games since the injury, and was limited in practice this week. Diggs and Kearse were both previously listed as suspects to play this week. Diggs has enjoyed a breakout season with an NFL-high 11 interceptions, while Kerr has also had his strongest year ever, setting career highs in nearly every defensive category, including starts (15), tackles (101) and Interception(2) is included.
