Aussie tennis newlyweds lose in Adelaide
Newlyweds Luke Saville and Daria Saville (née Gavrilova) both suffered defeats at the Adelaide International 2 on Monday.
Daria went down to world number 65 Anna Konjuh of Croatia 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) in the 32nd round on Monday.
Her husband also tasted defeat, with Luke losing a qualifying match against Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka 7-6 (7-4) 6-7 (7-0) 6-2 in a tight match.
Having won a wildcard for her first major of the year, Daria will now turn her attention to the Australian Open.
The 27-year-old reached a career-high No. 20 in the world in 2017, but a rotten run with injuries dropped her ranking to 385th.
She registered her victory in the main draw of last week's Adelaide International 1 before losing to 2020 French Open champion Inga Swietek in straight sets in the first round.
Luke most recently competed for Australia in the ATP Cup and the Tokyo Olympics, and will be aiming to improve his doubles game ahead of the Australian Open.
The 28-year-old is currently ranked 23rd in the world in doubles.
After first meeting in Mexico in 2009, Daria and Luke married in December.
